Shane Beamer throws serious shade at former South Carolina player over transfer

Shane Beamer has once again thrown shade at a former player, but for all the right reasons. Towards midseason, Beamer shared that defender Bangally Kamara would enter the transfer portal at the end of the season, which helped him reach that decision.

Originally, Kamara was set to be redshirted for the season after playing in just four matches. This was all after Kamara played four years at Pitt, his first season with the Gamecocks. Beamer thought it was best to enter the transfer portal and move to the program. Kamara announced that it will happen soon transferring to Kansas for next season.

So Beamer has had his fair share of experience talking to players looking to enter the transfer portal. At Tuesday’s press conference, Beamer shared the story of one player in particular who chose to transfer at the end of last season, and Beamer didn’t forget what he said.

Beamer didn’t reveal who that player was, but everyone knows who the South Carolina head coach is talking about. The assumption is that he was referring to former wide receiver Juice Wells, who transferred from the program last season and went to SEC rival Ole Miss.

This player chose to say that he didn’t think South Carolina would be good this season because they didn’t have a point guard, so he wanted to transfer. Obviously Beamer disagreed, and right now Beamer appears to be the one who got it right with the style of play that redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers has played this season.

Juice Wells spent two seasons at South Carolina After transferring from James Madison in 2022. In his first season with the Gamecocks, Wells made 68 receptions for 928 yards and six touchdowns as one of South Carolina’s leading wide receivers. Unfortunately, injury plagued his second season with the Gamecocks as he injured his foot over the summer. He made an early exit while playing in the first match and that was the end of his season.

Now with Ole Miss, Wells is just one of many mouths feeding on the offense of quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose production has declined. So far this season Wells has only 26 receptions for 496 yards but has five touchdowns on the season.

When Wells faced South Carlina earlier this season, the Gamecocks were able to hold him to just three receptions, but one of them went for 66 yards, the bulk of his receiving yards on the day. Wells finished the game with a 97-yarder, but Gamecock fans managed to laugh a little as Wells managed to score a big touchdown pass, but instead: fumbled out of the end zone for a touchback.

Wells probably didn’t think Beamer would remember what he said the day he told him he wanted to transfer. While Beamer was too kind to name the player, it seems pretty obvious it was Wells when Beamer said he was an offensive player and mentioned the quarterback situation.

So for future reference, don’t talk bad about Shane Beamer’s team because he will remember it and throw shade at you to prove a point.
