A person was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a car and pedestrians collided at a junction in Hastings.

Police were alerted to the crash at Williams St and Pakowhai Rd at around 7.50am on Thursday.

According to the police spokesman, one person was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The road was closed at the time but was reopened shortly.

The spokesman said police were investigating the circumstances of the crash.
