Police arrest suspect behind multiple criminal businesses advertising on TikTok

Police arrested a 26-year-old Maltese man for allegedly advertising fake luxury items on TikTok.

In a statement, the police said they received an anonymous tip regarding the suspect’s TikTok account. He allegedly sold fake luxury watches and only accepted cash payments, with police saying it was an attempt to launder money.

The man is also alleged to have advertised sirens and signal lights for private vehicles.

Following the surveillance operation, it was determined that the man was driving a vehicle with its signal lights and siren on, and that the vehicle was unregistered and did not have the appropriate driver’s license.

Police searched the man’s home and found numerous fake watches, bags and jewellery. In addition to cash, pepper spray ready for sale was also seized.

The seizures also included cloned cards used for credit card fraud. In the police investigation, it was also claimed that the suspect was advertising fake money and that payment for such products would be made with cryptocurrency.

Police said their investigations uncovered a business on the dark web where illicit substances from China would be sold and then shipped to another country to be sold.

The suspect is expected to be referred to the courthouse at around 11.45 on Wednesday.
