Anmol Bishnoi – younger brother of the notorious gangster Lawrence BishnoiThe suspect, who runs a global crime organization despite being imprisoned in Ahmedabad, was arrested last Thursday in Sacramento, the capital of California, United States, on the grounds that he entered this country with illegal documents.

Bishnoi – Wanted by India in connection with several high-profile cases, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and the murder of former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique last month. Faces extradition request from Delhi.

He has now been arrested by US authorities but not in connection with the crimes for which he is accused by the Indian government. Intelligence sources stated that it is not currently possible to send Anmol Bishnoi to India in line with Delhi’s detention request earlier this month.

However, sources told NDTV that the US government had informed its Indian counterpart about the detention of Anmol Bishnoi and the reasons for the 50-year-old’s detention.

Bishnoi is in the Pottawattamie County Jail in Iowa, according to the ICE website.

Bishnoi traveled frequently between the United States and Canada, where his brother’s gang had influence, and was reportedly under investigation by the latter government.

Earlier this month, Mumbai Police sent a proposal to the central government for the extradition of Bishnoi, who was named in a case filed by the National Investigation Agency, or NIA.

This was after the Maharashtra court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Bishnoi Junior.

A Red Corner Notice has been issued by global law enforcement agency Interpol.

Bishnoi, from Punjab’s Fazilka district, was believed to be in Canada after fleeing India on a fake passport. He also faces two cases filed by the National Investigation Agency, India’s counter-terrorism agency.

The Bishnoi gang, which made headlines after the murder of singer Moosewala, hit the headlines again this year after the shooting incident in front of actor Salman Khan’s house on April 14.

After the incident, security at his home was tightened as threats continued to pour in on Lawrence Bishnoi’s behalf in connection with the 1998 black deer hunting case. The gang is also being investigated last month in connection with the murder of politician Baba Siddiqui, who is known to be close to Salman Khan.

Also in 2022, the Bishnoi brothers were accused, among others, of being part of a conspiracy to raise funds and recruit youths for “terrorist acts” in Delhi and other parts of the country.
