Family says woman who missed flight at LAX disappeared after texting her friend about it

LOS ANGELES (HawaiiNewsNow/Gray News) – A woman from Hawaii is missing after her family said she missed her connecting flight from LAX in Los Angeles more than 10 days ago.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed it is investigating the disappearance of 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi.

Kobayashi was traveling from Hawaii to New York City on a connecting flight from Los Angeles on Friday, November 8. Authorities said he missed a connecting flight at LAX and has since disappeared.

He was planning to meet his aunt in New York, but she confirmed she never showed up.

Kobayashi’s family said her ex-boyfriend was also flying from Maui to LAX because they had booked the plane ticket before leaving.

But the family said he told them they were not seated together and had no contact during the flight.

Kobayashi’s ex-boyfriend had a connecting flight to New York and was very responsive and cooperative with the investigation, his family said.

The newly obtained security camera photo was the last piece of information in the search for Kobayashi. Pictured is the day he missed his connecting flight at LAX.

A short YouTube video also caught Kobayashi outside an event in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 9, the day after he missed his flight.

However, the family said the last pinned location on Kobayashi’s phone showed he arrived back at LAX on Monday, Nov. 11.

That same day, his family said Kobayashi sent text messages to a friend saying he was scared.

“I was almost tricked into giving all my money to someone I thought I loved,” Kobayashi’s message to his friend read.

“It was really scary,” he wrote in a follow-up text.

Kobayashi’s sister described these texts as “really weird” and said she was unsure whether the messages were written by Kobayashi.

“It seems weird to me because it doesn’t look like that, like there’s something weird about it. So I wasn’t so sure. “I don’t know if it’s him or someone else texting,” his sister Sydni Kobayashi said.

Hannah Kobayashi’s father has now gone to Los Angeles to look for his daughter.

“We’re just trying to gather as much information as possible,” his father said. Ryan Kobayashi said. “Do you want to announce this… has anyone seen my daughter?”

The family also filed a criminal complaint with the FBI.

“There is a lot of anxiety, a lot of confusion. Everything seems blurry because I haven’t been able to sleep well since I heard the news and I really don’t know… it’s really concerning,” Ryan Kobayashi said.
