Chicago White Sox Need to Make Major Roster Decision as Rule-5 Deadline Approaches

The Chicago White Sox face a tough decision with outfield prospect Wilfred Veras, according to MLB Pipeline.

Tuesday night (6 p.m. ET) is the deadline to protect certain players from the Rule-5 Draft, so players must be placed on the 40-man roster or subject to the draft, which takes place on December 11.

Veras has been called the White Sox’ “toughest call-up.”

Veras’ father, Wilson, and his uncle, Fernando Tatis Sr. and his cousin Fernando Tatis Jr. He has an extensive major league pedigree that has reached the Majors with . He has some of the best raw power in Chicago’s system, but he tempers that power with an extremely aggressive approach, slashing .267/.319/.424 with 16 homers and 25 steals in 128 Double-A games.

Veras is currently listed as the 25th prospect in the organization according to MLB.com. He is 22 years old.

It’s easy to see this on both ends for the White Sox. After a 41-121 season, Chicago needs all the interior talent it can get. It would be hard to let Veras go, especially if he has the ability to shoot at the rim. However, the White Sox will also continue their sales this winter. Garrett Crochet or Luis Robert Jr. They may value roster spot to bring in more talent via trade.

MLB Pipeline predicts: sox He will add infielder Colson Montgomery to the 40-man roster. He is a top 100 prospect in baseball and was drafted in the first round of the 2021 draft.

If a player is selected in the Rule 5 Draft, that player must remain on the draft team at the major league level for the entire season (if healthy). If they fail to do so, they are sent back to the original team.
