Brazilian police on Tuesday arrested five people suspected of participating in an alleged coup to kill then-president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and vice president Geraldo Alckmin before he was inaugurated, police said.

Police also stated that the majority of those investigated were military personnel with Special Forces training.

Reuters reported It was stated that retired Brigadier General Mario Fernandes was among those arrested. He previously worked as secretary general of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

In the statement made by the police, “A detailed operation plan called ‘Green and Yellow Dagger’ has been determined, aiming to kill the elected president and vice presidential candidates, to be implemented on December 15, 2022.”
