UCF Dining Services, in collaboration with Student Government, recently announced that the Steak ‘n Shake location in the Student Union will be closing.

Opened in 1997, the Student Union has long been a hub for the UCF community, serving meals to approximately 30,000 students and faculty. Over the years, the Union has expanded to accommodate approximately 70,000 students with a variety of dining options to and from. Among these, Steak ‘n Shake has become a popular spot for students wanting burgers and shakes.

However, this beloved restaurant will close its doors on November 26. In its place, UCF Dining Services will introduce Halal Shack, a fast-casual restaurant specializing in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Halal Cottage, which was first put into service in 2017, will bring a new option to the Student Union when it opens to coincide with the beginning of the Spring Term in 2025.

Dining Services explained that this change is intended to provide students with healthier food options and reduce the “guilt” that often accompanies indulgent food choices.

So if you’re a regular at Steak ‘n Shake, be sure to visit one last time before it closes on November 26th. If you’re a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, get ready for something new and exciting at the beginning of Spring Term!
