UPDATE (11/18/24): Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones said Cheryl Rawls died Sunday, two days after her vehicle was struck by a train.

He was pronounced dead at 11:07 a.m., according to Jones.


UPDATE (11/15/24 – 22:08): – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman injured in Friday’s collision as Cheryl Rawls of Macon. Deputies say he remains in critical condition.


MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 76-year-old woman is in critical condition in the hospital after a train collided with an SUV Friday afternoon.

The incident happened just after 2:30 a.m. on Tucker Road near Forsyth Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they arrived and saw the vehicle had been hit by a train. Eyewitnesses said that the train crossing gate collapsed on the vehicle and the driver could not get out of the path of the train.
