DE PERE, Wis. (WBAY) – An unattended grease on the stove is blamed for a fire that broke out at a De Pere townhouse early Monday morning.

The fire occurred around 12:15 in the morning. The De Pere Fire Department reported the fire to Scheuring Rd. He said he was sent to Nicolet Town Houses on the road. For a report of a cooking fire.

Fire crews arrived at the scene within minutes and detected smoke in the two-storey house.

De Pere police and a neighbor used firefighters to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

Fire crews confirmed that the fire was extinguished and everyone in the house was able to get out safely.

While the fire was taken under control in the kitchen area, smoke damage occurred on the first floor.

Citizens and their neighbors affected by the smoke were treated at the scene.

De Pere Fire Rescue reminds people to be extremely careful and careful when cooking with oil or fat.
