Serious crash closes 5&20 in Geneva; one was airlifted, the other was hospitalized

A serious motor vehicle collision on State Routes 5 and 20 in the town of Geneva injured two drivers, prompting road closures and emergency response from multiple agencies.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says the crash occurred early Sunday morning near the Geneva WalMart entrance and State Route 14A. Emergency responders, including the Waterloo, White Springs and Border City Fire Departments, quickly arrived on scene to provide assistance.

First responders applied a tourniquet to one of the drivers, who was seriously injured and suffered significant blood loss. This individual was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by Mercy Flight and is currently in stable condition. The other driver suffered minor injuries and reported back pain and was treated at Geneva General Hospital.

Both individuals were identified as Carrie E. Stark, 63, of Macedon and Shayla M. Sapp, 31, of Geneva.

The crash temporarily closed a portion of Routes 5 and 20 for cleanup and investigation, but the road was later reopened to normal traffic. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collision and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
