Orlando teenager arrested on second-degree murder charge in stabbing of boyfriend

An Orlando teenager was arrested Friday on second-degree murder charges for stabbing her boyfriend, whom she had stabbed and threatened to kill in previous incidents, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest affidavit said 18-year-old Zoe Nicole Cooper got into a physical altercation with 19-year-old Tadarius Massey in August following an argument at his home in Orlando. Massey had been stabbed multiple times, had a cut on his forehead and marks on his neck consistent with manual strangulation.

The affidavit stated that Cooper took Massey and friends at his home to a hospital in Ocoee and allowed them to transport him to the hospital where he died. He did not enter the hospital but returned home. Sheriff’s deputies were called to the hospital.

It was unclear at the time of the incident whether Massey’s death was a result of murder or self-defense. However, during the investigation, Sheriff’s Office detectives determined the death was a homicide.

Cooper was arrested in the Houston, Texas, area, according to the news release. He will return to Orange County at a future date.

During the incident that led to his death, Massey’s friends said he had already been stabbed when they saw the couple leaving the residence and Cooper became distraught and said, “I didn’t mean it,” the affidavit states.

Cooper told deputies that the argument started because Massey wouldn’t let him access his phone, the affidavit said. She said they had a prolonged fight in which he armed himself with a knife, at one point Massey took the knife and stabbed the stuffed animals, then took the knife back and stabbed him.

Deputies did not find any stabbed stuffed animals, and Cooper’s only injury was a black eye, according to the affidavit; this was inconsistent with a prolonged fight. He also said Massey spilled drink on himself during the fight, but deputies found nothing at the scene to confirm this. Family members at the residence told deputies they did not witness anything.

Subsequent investigation by the Sheriff’s Office revealed that Massey had previously told others that he had been attacked and stabbed by Cooper and that he had threatened to kill him.

The affidavit said the autopsy found two old stab wounds on Massey’s shoulder, a photo was found on his phone of Massey with a new stab wound on his shoulder from March, and an assistant principal at Ocoee High School told deputies that Massey told Cooper that Cooper stabbed him. . previously.

Messages from both cell phones show Cooper threatening Massey a few days after he took a photo of the last stab wound. Some of Cooper’s messages included “I should have killed you,” “I wish you had died that day,” “I’m glad I stabbed you,” and “I seriously hope you die a painful death and I mean ts.”

According to the affidavit, a few days after Massey’s death, Cooper sent him a message on Instagram that said “u alms this sleepy relic” and included several smiley face emojis.

According to testimony, Massey told the same assistant principal at Ocoee High School that Cooper had assaulted him multiple times, including an incident at the school in December. She said she was angry that Cooper wouldn’t let her have access to his phone, just like during the fatal altercation, because he thought she was talking to other girls.

The manager at Subway, where Massey worked, came in “beaten” and told him he had been attacked by Cooper, the affidavit said. The manager told deputies that Cooper would come to Subway and watch Massey work without speaking to him.
