A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were killed in Manchester, police said.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the scene in Moss Side at around 5am on Sunday morning following reports that two men had been stabbed.

It was stated that emergency service teams also attended the scene of the two men, who were treated for their injuries but were later declared dead.

According to police, a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held for questioning.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the double stabbing and were treating the incident as “an isolated incident that does not pose a threat to the public”.

A cordon has been established in and around Great Southern Street and police have asked the public to continue to avoid the area as there remains a large emergency service presence.
