Notre Dame Fans Enjoy Senior Day Victory But Share Concerns About Team Performance

Notre Dame wins eight straight games by a landslide

Marcus Freeman is now 3/3 for Senior Day wins at Notre Dame Stadium during his tenure, following a solid 35-14 defensive-led victory over Virginia. Callers to the Always Irish live postgame show were elated with Notre Dame’s eighth straight win and were once again impressed with how solid the Irish defense was.

This unit continues to make plays and perform at a high level week after week. Fans appreciate how consistent this unit is. He plays winning football in every game, including the one that Notre Dame lost. When it comes to tonight’s game in particular, Xavier Watts stood out as the player fans wanted to talk about. Not just to recognize his superb play in this game, but throughout his tenure in Ireland.

Kicking game and offense raise some concerns

Irish fans realize what a nice luxury it is to be able to complain about areas where the team needs improvement after a big win.

With that in mind, callers share long-term concerns about the passing game, which hasn’t been a reliable part of the offense for much of the season compared to the running game of Love, Price and Leonard. Is the Irish offense we’ve seen most of the year good enough to make a deep CFP run, or will there need to be another level of how Notre Dame threatens the defense?

The kicking game is also an area where Irish fans are nervous. Mitch Jeter isn’t healthy enough to kick a field goal, and two players missed badly against Virginia. This kind of thing isn’t a problem until it becomes a problem.

There is now light at the end of the CFP tunnel. Notre Dame has two games left, and if it wins both, it will likely make the CFP field with even one game at home. Two more battles must be won. This team is too far gone to seal the deal anymore, right?
