HOUSTON – A man was killed after police say he crashed into the back of an Amazon Prime 18-wheeler on Houston’s south side.

The incident occurred at around 01.30 on Saturday on highway 288 between Almeda Genoa and Ring Road 8.

Witnesses said the driver of the Corvette was driving at a high rate of speed, then hit the Amazon Prime 18-wheeler, crashed into the median, and the car caught fire.

While the driver died at the scene, his identity has not been disclosed yet.

The woman driving the 18-wheeler suffered neck and back pain but is expected to recover.

“There are numerous skid marks that indicate the Corvette was indeed traveling down the highway so fast that it was unable to go around or stop when it encountered the 18-wheeler,” Lt. Willkens said. Houston Police Department.
