Manhunt enters third day for man deemed ‘armed and dangerous’ in Lenoir County

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – We’re entering the third day of a manhunt for a man who deputies say shot two people in an East Carolina county.

Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said 38-year-old Ryan Everett faces multiple serious charges, including attempted murder and felony use of a firearm.

Authorities conducted another search Friday in and around the man’s home on Wheat Swamp Road with the help of a Highway Patrol helicopter and robots.

“He’s still at large,” the sheriff says. “We cleaned the house and the surrounding area, but he went out of this area and is still at large. “We’re still looking for it all the time.”

Everett stole two guns from Ed Moye Road in the Arba area in Greene County around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies say he then went to his home at Wheat Swamp Road and US 258. That’s where investigators say he shot Dustin Snyder and Kathryn Sturges, both 37 years old.

Authorities said the two were at a local hospital. As of Friday night, Snyder, of Kinston, was in critical condition and Sturges, of Snow Hill, was in stable condition. Investigators say they don’t know a motive for the attack.

The sheriff said people in the area should be careful and report any information that could lead to his arrest to 911.

Lenoir County deputies continue the search with assistance from neighboring counties, Kinston police, SBI and Highway Patrol.

Everett’s home is less than three miles from North Lenoir High School.

Deputies said a search was conducted at the high school Friday morning and security checks were conducted at Banks Middle School. The sheriff’s office had a large law enforcement presence in and around the high school, including the SWAT team.
