Bengaluru police to move SC against actor Darshan’s grant of interim bail in murder case

The Bengaluru police will approach the Supreme Court to cancel the interim bail granted to actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is accused in a high-profile kidnapping and murder case. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed the decision on Friday (November 15) and said the appeal would be filed next week.

The Karnataka High Court had granted conditional bail to Darshan on October 30, allowing him to receive treatment at BGS Apollo Hospital for severe back pain. The actor, who spent 131 days in police custody, was in jail since June 11 on charges related to the kidnapping and murder of Chitradurga resident Renukaswamy.

Commissioner Dayananda announced that the bail conditions should be reconsidered and the state home ministry approved the appeal. “The State Department of Internal Affairs has approved the appeal, which will be held next week. “Senior advocate VN Raghupathi has been appointed to represent the police in the Supreme Court,” he said.

On November 13, Home Minister G Parameshwara while talking to the media said: “I have conveyed to the home ministry secretary that if they want to appeal to the high court in Darshan’s case, they can go ahead.”

Darshan is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and murder of Renukaswamy, who was allegedly detained, tortured in a shed in Pattanagere and later found dead in a drain in Sumanahalli. According to the 3,991-page indictment filed by police on September 4, the victim was subjected to extreme violence, including electric shocks that caused shock and bleeding. Renukaswamy allegedly sent offensive messages on social media to Pavithra Gowda, who was reportedly in a long-term relationship with Darshan.
