Clifton Primary School confirmed as next school recommended to close its doors

CLIFTON, Colo. (KJCT) – On Friday, parents and teachers of students at Clifton Elementary School were told their school was the third and possibly last school the Board of Education will vote on whether to close next week.

The announcement comes on the heels of similar recommendations issued earlier in the week. Primary School with a View It was announced on Thursday and Nisley Primary School It was announced on Wednesday. Now the question of whether these three schools will close their doors for good is in the hands of the local Board of Education, which will vote on Nov. 19.

A wider public announcement is expected to be made on Friday evening. District 51 said it will include a Closing Recommendation Report that will outline recommendations and provide context for proposed decisions. This report will also be read and voted on at the board of directors meeting on November 19.

The suggestions were not liked by some parents, A group of parents held a protest outside Scenic Elementary School on Thursday night. to express their disdain for the recommendations.

While the district stated that Scenic was planned to close due to declining enrollment, protesters argued that the school was academically successful.

“Scenic Elementary School is one of the highest performing schools in the district. Compared to the state tests, we also test really well and score really well,” said Scenic Elementary School parent Kelsey Teske. “We do not think that this is a school that you should take as an example.”

After the decision is finalized, the district administration will change the boundaries of primary schools in order to compensate for the gaps created by the closures. Boundaries will then be voted on by the board prior to the preferred school’s application window.

The district still hasn’t announced what will happen to staff at the affected schools.
