Three bodies, believed to be among six people reported missing from Jiribam district, were found at the confluence of Jiri and Barak rivers along the Manipur-Assam border, officials said on Saturday. The remains, including a woman and two children, were recovered on Friday night about 16 kilometers from Borobekra in Jiribam district, where the group was last seen on Monday, officials told PTI. Although the bodies have not yet been officially identified, authorities suspect they may belong to missing persons. The bodies were transferred to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in Assam and placed in the morgue for post-mortem examinations. Previously, following the violent incidents in Borobekra city of Jiribam, 6 members of a family, including 3 women and 3 children, including 1 baby, disappeared. All six people are from the Meitei community and were staying at a relief camp set up at Borobekra police station following the uprising in June. The identity verification process is ongoing and photos are being collected for confirmation, an official said. Autopsies are being conducted in Assam due to inadequate facilities in Jiribam. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh held a meeting with senior ministers on Friday night to address the situation following the discovery. Tensions rose in the Imphal Valley as news of the bodies spread, prompting authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in five districts on Saturday. – India News
