ATLANTA – Investigators are searching for answers after officers found a body in a stream at the Morningside Nature Preserve northeast of Atlanta Friday afternoon.

Atlanta police said the gruesome discovery was made near Wildwood Road. Officers and homicide investigators quickly dispersed to the area, while teams combed the ground and water for clues to determine what happened.

Atlanta Police Department Homicide Unit and Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office teams were on scene as the investigation continued. Police have not yet released the victim’s name or detailed information on how they died.

Local residents who learned about the incident stated that they were shocked and could not believe it.

“I was very surprised when I heard about this,” said Jackson Tobias, who lives in the area. “This park is generally a very calm and protective place.”

Phoebe Clayton, another neighbor, echoed that sentiment. “I was absolutely shocked and saddened to hear this,” he said.

Robert Rude, who lives nearby, also described the situation as “extremely surprising.” “I never expected to see or hear anything like this,” he added.

The investigation continues as police work to uncover the identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding his death. Residents remain uneasy about the discovery in what is, for now, a quiet neighborhood park.
