Hawaiian woman Hannah Kobayashi was reported missing after flying into LAX en route to New York

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A 30-year-old woman from Maui went missing after flying to Los Angeles a week ago, and her family is asking for the public’s help finding her.

Hannah Kobayashi was supposed to continue to New York after a brief layover at Los Angeles International Airport.

But apparently he missed the connecting flight. His family said the last they heard from him were several cryptic messages in which he said someone was trying to steal his identity.

Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, flew to Los Angeles to help search for her.

“He’s been to Europe, he’s been to Japan, but there’s never been anything like this where he’s not in contact with anyone,” he told Eyewitness News.

It says that after Hannah missed her flight to New York last Friday night, she began sending strange messages to family members talking about a “spiritual awakening”, apologizing for the frenzy and then texting “definitely stopped.”

Hannah Kobayashi is seen in an undated photo.

Even scarier, Hannah texted another friend to say someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

“He felt like he was in danger,” his father said. “He felt like someone was trying to take over his identity or phone.”

Hannah’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon, says this behavior is unlike her niece, who was planning to attend an event in New York.

“He’s a very responsible person. He was so looking forward to this event. He had booked a hotel room worth a few thousand dollars, and the ticket for the event was a few hundred dollars.”

Some clues to his possible whereabouts have come from social media sleuths. A photo was posted to Hannah’s Instagram account over the weekend. Some social media followers of Hannah’s aunt were able to determine that the photo was taken at an event held at The Grove. Further detective work uncovered a video on YouTube that appeared to show Hannah.

The last time his phone rang was at LAX, but it doesn’t work anymore.

Family members say they filed missing person reports with both the LAPD and the LAX Police Department and began searching for Hannah themselves.

“We just hope he’s safe, healthy and alive,” his father said. “And if anyone knows anything, we would really appreciate any help.”
