CINCINNATI — The Bengals were interested in electric Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs during the 2023 NFL Draft, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Gibbs recently discussed how Cincinnati would take him if they had the chance. The Bengals selected Myles Murphy with the 28th pick.

“I knew for a fact that if I was still there, Dallas would have taken me at No. 26,” he said on The Richard Sherman Podcast. “And a few other places like Cincinnati were going to take me. I think they were going to trade for something like 18 in that range.”

Trading in the first round might be a misuse of resources right now, but this league is about players, not picks. And so far, Gibbs is arguably a better NFL player than Murphy.

According to Pro Football ReferenceGibbs (a value of about 10) has been 10 times better than Murphy (a value of about 1) in terms of production. Check out the full comments on Sherman’s show below:
