Rams Projected to Land Exciting Land on Matthew Stafford Replacement

The Los Angeles Rams definitely need to start thinking about life after Matthew Stafford.

Yes, the Rams are challenging for a playoff berth this season, and of course Stafford is still at least serviceable under center.

But it’s becoming increasingly clear that Stafford’s best days are ahead of him behind himWith the veteran point guard being 36 years old, Los Angeles has some potential changes in mind.

The Rams could eventually turn to the 2025 NFL Draft to find Stafford’s successor, and CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso identified a likely candidate for them: Texas Longhorns star Quinn Ewers.

“Ewers will learn from another former Giants recruit with a ball in his arm before taking over in 2026.” Trapasso wrote.

In other words, Ewers will serve as Stafford’s mentor next season and replace him as the starter in 2026.

Of course, Stafford is under contract through 2026, so unless he retires or falls off a cliff between then (both possibilities), Ewers may have to wait until 2027 to take the reins.

However, there is no doubt that Pitchers will represent It’s an intriguing follow-up for Stafford, who led Los Angeles to a Super Bowl title in the 2021-22 season.

Ewers threw for 1,722 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2024 while completing 69.3 percent of his passes.

The problem with Ewers is that he’s not really a dual-threat quarterback, and while Stafford isn’t either, Stafford entered the league at a time when that wasn’t all that common.

In today’s game, being able to get out of the pocket and run with the football is almost becoming a necessity for signal callers, so it’s a bit concerning that Ewers doesn’t have that in his arsenal, and that’s one of the reasons why. Draft stock is down slightly.

The problem for the Rams is that they may not have one of the top picks in the draft, so explosive threats like Cam Ward and Jalen Milroe are likely out of their reach.

All things considered, Ewers has great arm talent and that could be enough for him to establish himself as a good quarterback at the NFL level.
