Jury finds Lawton man guilty of second-degree murder and leaves crash scene

LAWTON, Oklahoma. (KSWO) – A jury found a Lawton man guilty of second-degree murder. Murder of Mark Cochran in 2023.

The jury deliberated for just 30 minutes before finding Vincent Sayers guilty of both second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Sayers was sentenced to life in prison for murder and 10 years in prison for leaving the scene of the wreck.

A person in the courtroom for the trial told 7News that the jury was shown security footage of the fatal crash, as well as a police officer’s body camera footage.

Comanche District Attorney Kyle Cabelka said he was pleased with the sentence because it reflected the premeditated intent and cruelty of a senseless crime that was caught on camera.

Sayers requested a pre-sentence investigation and will be formally sentenced on January 8.

Cochran’s family shared the photo of the victim below. His family said they wanted to thank prosecutor Sergeant Kyle Cabelka. Justin Johnson, Lawton Police and Fire Department are the witnesses who stayed with Cochran.
