Chandler freeway closes, other freeways restricted this weekend

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — Valley drivers will see mostly construction-free highways this weekend, except for closed roads in the East Valley and highways where some lanes are closed.

Eastbound Loop 202 Santan Highway will be closed between McQueen and Cooper roads from 11:59 PM Friday until noon Saturday.

Westbound Loop 202 will then be closed between Cooper and McQueen roads from 11:59 p.m. Saturday until noon Sunday.

Teams will carry out highway expansion work in the region.

Eastbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed between two lanes The I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and US 60 from 10 PM Friday until 4 AM Monday as crews continue to work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

Motorists traveling on I-10 should expect on- and off-ramp closures of eastbound I-10 beginning at 8 p.m. Friday. All eastbound and westbound I-10 ramps to eastbound US 60 will be closed.

Additionally, the southbound I-17 ramp and the eastbound I-10 ramp near Sky Harbor Airport and the eastbound US 60 ramp at Priest Drive will also be closed.

For those traveling to the Fountain Hills area, SR 87 will be narrowed to one lane in both directions between McDowell Road and Shea Boulevard from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday for Ironman Arizona.

Westbound McKellips Road will be closed between Loop 202 and Alma School Road. Drivers should also avoid the eastbound Loop 202 ramp at McKellips Road as there will be restrictions in the area.

Turns:

Motorists who need to bypass the I-10 closure should use eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain, starting at the SR 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange, to southbound Loop 101 Price in Tempe. From Tempe, drivers can take westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 Santan.

Those who typically take Loop 202 Santan in the East Valley area should use Pecos or Germann routes.

Fountain Hills residents should use eastbound Shea Boulevard from Loop 101 in Scottsdale to reach SR 87.
