Here’s our first look at the upcoming live-action movie adaptation How to Train Your Dragon what features Mason Thames (Black Phone) as the young Viking Hiccup. We also have a few more photos leaked online that offer a glimpse of the toothless dragon.

The movie comes from the director Dean DeBloisdirected and co-directed three animated films Chris Sanders in the first movie.

DeBlois talked about the movie Empire When talking about the scene where Hiccup had to pretend to confront Toothless for the benefit of the dragon-fearing people of Berk, he said in an interview:

“It’s a very tricky situation in terms of the stakes; it’s completely believable, a photorealistic dragon running around trying to kill him.”

When talking about Hiccup, DeBlois says the character “represents all the weirdos out there, and there are a lot of us.”

Discussing casting Thames for the role, DeBois said: “There was a little bit of awkwardness, but also a vulnerability that came with the fact that she was 15 when we auditioned her.”

The movie also stars Nico Parker (The Last of Us) As Astrid, Gerard Butler as Stoick the Wide, leader of the Viking clan and Hiccup’s father, and Nick Don (Shaun of the Dead, Warm Fuzzies) While the Viking names Gobber the Belcher, Stoick’s trusted friend and advisor.

Using books Cressida Cowell As a jumping off point, How to Train Your Dragon It focuses on the special friendship between a young, unheroic Viking boy named Hiccup and Toothless, the injured dragon he treats.

The films depicted Hiccup and Toothless’ quest to combat humanity’s prejudice against dragons, the pain of overcoming parental loss, and first love.
