Schools announce support for students after Wisbech bus crash

It was stated that support was provided by two schools to the students who were rescued from the bus that fell into a water-filled ditch on Thursday.

In a joint statement, Spalding Grammar School and Spalding High School in Lincolnshire said they had been in contact with the families of those affected and understood no children had suffered serious injuries.

At 17:15 GMT on Thursday, a double-decker bus with six children on board crashed into a ditch running alongside Leverington Common near Wisbech St Mary, Cambridgeshire.

The children were evacuated by their families and later collected from the scene, schools said.

Spalding Grammar School and Spalding High School said in a joint statement: “We have been informed by police that some of our students had a car accident on their way home from school last night (Thursday, November 15).

“We understand from the police that the children were taken from the scene of the accident by their parents.

“Based on the information we have received so far, we understand that none of them were seriously injured.

“School support is available for children affected by this incident and we are in contact with families to help where we can.

“It was learned that the bus driver was hospitalized after the accident and we wished him a speedy recovery.”
