Young theft suspects identified themselves in their home security camera footage

COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) – Three teenagers have been arrested after breaking into a home in Coventry and spending a “considerable amount of time there” while the homeowners were away, police said.

It was determined that the child suspects were only 15, 16 and 17 years old.

The burglary was reported Nov. 1 at a home on Woodland Road.

Police said the house had been vacant for some time. When the homeowners returned, they reported finding evidence that someone had broken in and spent considerable time there.

After viewing surveillance video of the home, officers said they were able to identify the suspects involved based on their appearance and the fact that they addressed each other by name in the video.

The suspects were referred to the Willimantic Juvenile Affairs Superior Court.

All three were charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and sixth-degree burglary.

The 17-year-old was also charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, police said.
