Four people were arrested for public order offenses following a pro-Palestinian protest in the University Road area of ​​south Belfast on Thursday.

The incident took place during former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Queen’s University in Belfast.

Clinton took office with a ceremony Rector of the university in September 2021.

Queen’s University said it was “disappointed in the action of this small number of protesters and condemns their behavior.”

Politicians including the first minister and her deputies, Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn and US special envoy Joe Kennedy also attended the event.

While the university says it “supports the right of any individual or group to protest,” it must be done in a peaceful and respectful manner.

Some protesters held a large picture of Hilary Clinton with blood on her hands.

Police said these people were detained.

Officers will remain in the south Belfast area this evening and a full investigation will be carried out, they added.
