Melody Hoffman’s family relieved with guilty verdict

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The jury deliberated for less than two hours Thursday to reach a verdict McKinley Louisma guilty. He was convicted of kidnapping and murdering Melody Hoffman last February.

During this hearing, the defense argued for lack of evidence in this case.

Linn County Prosecutor Nick Maybanks said this verdict was justice for Melody and her family.

Melody’s parents, Megan and TJ Hoffman, say they are relieved by the decision.

“We can’t thank the entire team enough. They were amazing. I can’t wait to continue getting justice for Melody with this team. She will be remembered for who she was,” said Megan and TJ.

Dakota Van Patten and Logan Kimpton are also charged in Hoffman’s death. Both men pleaded not guilty. They have not been to the hearing yet.

Louisma’s sentencing is scheduled for December 6. Convictions come with automatic life sentences
