The head of the Big Apple’s most powerful teachers union on Thursday fired Gov. Kathy Hochul and “tone deaf” Democrats who disparaged working-class New York residents. $9 congestion charge – a week after the election, in which the party suffered a major blow.

In addition to Hochul, Mulgrew also blamed Democrats in the state House and Senate who voted in 2019 for the legislation approved by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo – Allows plan to tax drivers entering Manhattan south of 60th Street.

He said lawmakers now need to step in and stop this.

He said traffic and pollution would shift from affluent Midtown Manhattan to less affluent residents of the outer boroughs.

As an example, he said: Hochul boasts about opening a new asthma center in the Bronx.

“People in the Bronx are going to need this,” he said.

Mulgrew’s anger at Democrats is ironic; its affiliated unions—the American Federation of Teachers and the United Teachers of New York State— many sources Getting Vice President Kamala Harris into the Oval Office and electing party members to battleground House seats.

Mulgrew represents scores of teachers and other educators from the suburbs and counties who attend public schools in the targeted “congestion” area.

“Our lawsuit against congestion pricing continues,” he said.

“No one disputes that New York needs to invest in public transportation. “But doing this at the expense of working people in New York City is wrong and tone-deaf.”
