Eagles Take Control of NFC East Back Defense, Beat Saquon Barkley, Commanders

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles defense once again showed its strength, making Jayden Daniels look pedestrian, and Saquon Barkley threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns just 20 seconds apart as the Eagles took control of the NFC with a 26-18 win over the Washington Commanders. East.

It was the Eagles’ sixth straight win and they still haven’t lost after Week 5. At 8-2, they are 1.5 games ahead of the Commanders in the NFC East, who dropped to 7-4 with two straight losses.

Barkley had 20 carries for 69 yards after three quarters. He finished with 146 yards on 26 carries. He opened the game with a 23-yard touchdown run that gave the Eagles a 19-10 lead.

Safety Reed Blankenship gave the ball back to the Eagles with an interception. It was his third-highest pick of the season and Daniels’ third interception this season. Blankenship also had 10 steals.

Barkley then went 39 yards for his second TD of the night to make it 26-10 with 4:55 left in the game. He has eight rushing scores and two strikeouts this season. He had 198 total yards with two catches for 52 yards.

Daniels finished 22-for-32 with 191 yards and a cosmetic touchdown pass to Zach Ertz with 28 seconds left. His passer rating was 81.6. He had just 18 yards on 17 carries and the Eagles sacked him three times; Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith and Josh Sweat also received them. It was Sweat’s team-leading sixth sack of the season.

The defense, which ranked second in the league, held the Commanders to 264 total yards, while the Eagles’ offense held 434 yards.

Zack Baun. The final NFC Defensive Player of the Week was stopped for the fourth time with 7:55 left in the game. Kenny Gainwell.
