Barbour County man sentenced to 20+ years in prison for sex crimes involving a minor

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man who previously pleaded guilty to several sex crimes involving a minor was sentenced Thursday in Barbour County court.

According to a statement released by the Barbour County Prosecutor, 26-year-old Abdeahmed Gahlan was convicted of the following crimes:

  • Third degree sexual assault (1-5 years)

  • Solicitation of a minor via computer (ages 2-10)

  • Traveling to solicit and engage a minor in sexual activity via computer (20 years)

  • Violating a domestic violence protection order (1 year)

  • Aggravated DUI (6 months)

The charges against Gahlan followed his arrest on a DUI charge in February 2023. A search warrant was executed on his vehicle, which had New York license plates, and deputies found 2.3 grams of alleged marijuana, more than $1,300 in cash and Gahlan’s phone. .

Later that week, deputies interviewed a child under the age of 16 at the Harrison County Child Advocacy Center, who disclosed that he had been in a sexual relationship with Gahlan since November 2022.

The statement stated that all of Gahlan’s sentences will be served consecutively or one after the other. Gahlan will also be required to register as a sex offender for life and will be subject to 25 years of sex offender probation after his sentence is completed.
