Continued emergency declarations for Park Fire after agreement

The Tehama County Board of Supervisors called a special meeting Thursday morning to discuss agenda items that could not be addressed at their regular meeting on Tuesday.

Chief Administrator Gabriel Hydrick sought approval to sign an employment contract with Jayme Bottke as Executive Director of Public Health, but a heated debate erupted after some public commenters took issue with certain wording in her contract that was not included in other contracts for department heads. . Auditors eventually removed the wording from the contract.

It was unanimously agreed that there remains a need for emergency declarations regarding the Park Fire.

“The emergency is mainly about public works being able to respond to road conditions and possible flooding. Just on Monday we had another flash flood warning at the fire burn scar in the park, so this element is specifically designed to be able to respond to roads and keep roads safe throughout the winter,” said one Tehama County staff.

They also agreed to continue the local health emergency declaration to allow environmental health services to step in and clean up Park Fire properties.

Every thirty days since the fire the Board of Supervisors has been reconsidering the need for notices, and they say they will likely be needed for several more months until there is no longer a significant danger.
