Tallahassee man guilty of fatal pedestrian hit and run in 2023

A man was convicted a hit and run incident that killed a pedestrian last year.

A Leon County jury found Manuel Holliday II, 24, guilty of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. According to the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, his sentence was set as January 6, 2025.

Tallahassee police officers responded to a crash on May 27, 2023, around 1 a.m., after a woman was shot on West Tennessee Street near Lukeman Lane.

Holliday was arrested less than two months later. Investigators identified him through license plate readers and footage from a surveillance camera near the scene, according to the release.

“Evidence shows (Holliday) had been drinking alcohol before the crash and was texting when she drifted to the side of the road and struck the victim,” the statement said.

Holliday said he did not stop because he did not realize he had hit a human, but “believed he had hit a vulture.”

The defense attempted to discount Holliday’s alcohol consumption on the night of the crime, but this was ruled out.

Charges filed against Assistant State’s Attorney Georgia Cappleman; Deputy Public Defender Randall Harper Jr. Represented Holliday. Circuit Judge J. Lee Marsh presided.
