British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific Catherine West will visit Bangladesh on 16-17 November to discuss ways to strengthen ties with Bangladesh on key fronts.

While briefing journalists at the ministry today (November 14), Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Toufique Hasan, said that he is expected to meet with Chief Advisor Prof Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain.

Toufique said the aim of his visit was to strengthen Bangladesh-UK economic, strategic and migration partnerships.

Its responsibilities include India and the Indian Ocean, China and Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, economic security and growth, and economics and evaluation.

Catherine West was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on 9 July 2024.

He has been the Labor MP for Hornsey and Friern Barnet since 2015.

Before entering politics, Catherine was a social worker.

He also worked with refugees in London during the Balkans crisis from 1998 to 2000.
