Lynchburg man sentenced to 20 years in prison for stabbing roommate

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – A Lynchburg man was sentenced to prison on Wednesday, October 4, 2022 stabbed his roommateAccording to Lynchburg State’s Attorney.

Nery Duban Escobar Torres, 25, was found guilty of aggravated intentional wounding and sentenced to 40 years in prison with 20 years suspended, according to court documents. Escobar Torres must also complete three years of probation and be on good behavior for 40 years following his release.

After being called to a report stabpolice responded to 1009 Jefferson Street, where they found a victim inside an apartment with what they called “serious stab wounds.”

Court documents say a witness described the attack as “sudden” and “unprovoked” and that Escobar Torres was seen yelling at the victim, who collapsed from his injuries.

Officers say Escobar Torres approached law enforcement and the victim, still holding the knife and covered in blood, and was taken into custody.

The victim was identified as Escobar Torres’ 22-year-old roommate, and officers quickly took life-saving measures, according to police. The victim was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital in critical condition and survived.

According to court documents, the Lynchburg judge “…praised the Lynchburg Police Department for their heroic efforts that contributed to the victim’s recovery from the attack.”
