“Ever since I was a little girl, what I wanted was to get married, experience the love I saw my family have, and have children. This dream is completely ruined; “I was crushed and I had to figure out how to move forward and dream a new dream,” she says, “and it was just this miracle that God brought Blake into my life.”

Stefani and Rossdale split in 2015 after 20 years together, and their split was devastating.

“Growing up with this perfect example of love, especially between my parents. They met when they were 15, fell in love, then became us (their children) and made us feel like we were everything to them.” he says. “And if you have a family and it’s the other way around, it falls apart… I didn’t know what to do or how to protect my kids. And I’m still working on it.”

In your new single “someone else’s” Stefani is seemingly referencing her and Rossdale’s breakup, singing: “I found the real thing now / You don’t compare / And I don’t care if you belong to someone else / And it doesn’t even break my heart / You belong to someone else / And I pray for them no matter who they are.”

Stefani admits that she “put a lot” into the album and felt like she was protecting her children, but she also felt a duty as an artist to share her truth with her fans.

“I got the songs. Do I sit in the studio and work on them? I do. But it’s like, where does this come from? Where does the inspiration come from? Where do these lyrics come from? They’re doing, they’re coming. They’re given to me, but they’re given to me,” he says. “So, whether I have kids or not, I feel like it’s my responsibility to share that. It’s a gift to me to share it with people. And I definitely think there are some songs that don’t mean the same thing. It feels the same to me as it does to anyone else, because there’s no one in my brain or my heart or my soul.” “They will have a different experience through the song.”

Ultimately, Stefani adds, her children “know what’s going on in their own families and their own lives and what’s real and what’s right.”
