Wednesday’s heavy flooding caused damage in Carencro

“Everything is damaged, everything.”

Mary Broussard and her family have lived on Fado Street for 3 years. Mary tells KATC she’s experienced flooding on her street before, but it never reached her home.

“So we tried sandbags, but it was too late, the house started flooding,” says Mary’s husband, Jeffery Glasgow.

His house was another victim of Wednesday’s heavy rain. main roads being impassable and closing schools.

The water is waist deep in some parts of Fado Street.

“I have three grandchildren living with me and everything from their clothes to their iPads were destroyed,” Broussard said.

His family thought this damage could have been prevented if the neighborhood had a proper drainage system.

“If they could just dig the canal a little deeper, I think it would be a lot better for everyone who lives there.”

Her son, Glizzy Woods, who is staying with his mother, agrees.

“We all pay taxes, so what does our tax money do to our drainage, it’s too bad there’s plenty of water out there. Nothing is being done to our community,” Woods says.

KATC reached out to Carencro Mayor Charlotte Clavier about the drainage system in this neighborhood and she said in a statement:

The city did a lot of work in the area, but more land was needed to do more. “These unexpected large events are difficult to plan, but we are grateful to the Carencro Police Department, Carencro Fire Department and Carencro Public Works for stepping up to help our citizens.”

Broussard said they are grateful to KATC for keeping them safe and will continue to rescue what they can from their home.
