JAL, New Mexico — Law enforcement officials in Jal, New Mexico, are investigating the discovery of several human skulls that authorities believe are linked to the disappearance of a woman in 2019.

The Lea County Sheriff’s Office said on Nov. 5, a resident reported having a “disturbing encounter” while giving someone a ride.

The resident said the passenger, who had two bags with him, “made alarming statements and threw objects from the vehicle, some of which appeared to be human bones.”

Officials said that a search of the area revealed bone fragments, and the pathologist confirmed that they were of human origin.

A search of the home where the man was staying turned up additional bone fragments, including “evidence of 10-20 human skulls,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The remains are currently being analyzed for potential identification.

The sheriff’s office said the case is “closely connected” to the 2019 disappearance of a woman named Angela McManes.

“Authorities are working diligently to determine the connection between the remains and McManes and other possible victims,” ​​the sheriff’s office said. he said.

Law enforcement is working to determine the origin of the bones, which the man said he purchased online.
