When asked about Harris, she comes out on top, with 33% of respondents saying they are very likely to support her, with 13% saying they are somewhat likely to support her.

“I find these numbers very encouraging for the Vice President,” said UC Berkeley IGS Political Science Professor Eric Schickler. “It shows that with him out of the race, the race is really wide open.”

Harris was San Francisco County district attorney, then moved to statewide office as attorney general. He was a U.S. senator for four years when he became vice president. Harris didn’t say what would happen next. Running for governor probably won’t be easy.

“If he were to run, there are certainly a number of formidable Democratic candidates in the race, so he would have to be prepared for serious opposition within the party,” Schickler said.

If she decides to run, Harris needs to decide quickly.
