KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) – The Kemper County Sheriff’s Department has charged Joshua Ryan Burns with being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Deputies were called Tuesday to assist the Department of Corrections, which controls parole status in the Preston community.

Authorities said Burns told them he had a firearm in his home. Deputies obtained a search warrant and found a firearm and a short-barreled shotgun, along with marijuana and various pills that were tested at the Mississippi Crime Lab.

Sheriff James Moore said the shotgun will be turned over to the ATF for possible federal charges. Burns remains in custody at the Mississippi Department of Corrections and may face additional charges.
