Acres Homes residents await promised CenterPoint repairs, streetlight outages to last for weeks

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — CenterPoint is promising action after Eyewitness News raised concerns from Acres Homes residents.

These residents are concerned because the streetlights on Maxroy Street near Cemetery Beautiful and South Victory Drive have been out for weeks.

Unetra Buckner and her grandmother Mildred only go out during the day these days.

“This is very disappointing, very aggravating and scary,” they explained.

Five street lights have not been working on its streets for more than a month.

They and several other neighbors called CenterPoint to request service.

“Call after call, case number after case number, nothing solved. Three days later we will be here, three days later nothing. If you call again the next day you will get the same result,” Unetra said.

“I called them and complained about it,” neighbor Mary Royston said. “I tell them we’re old people here. I’m 84, I need to go out and I can’t see anything.”

We called ABC13 CenterPoint ourselves.

A spokesman responded by saying repairs were expected to be completed by the end of the week.

Neighborhood residents finally have a timeline for when the lights will be fixed but are skeptical.

“I don’t think they care about the neighborhood we live in,” Mildred said.

“I guess if we were in another gated community, River Oaks, Sugar Land or somewhere else, this wouldn’t be such a big deal,” Unetra added. “I truly believe the search will be made and the lights will be turned on.”
