The depleted 76ers roster gave him a bold shot.

But the Cleveland Cavaliers prevailed again on Wednesday, outscoring Philadelphia by a 54-48 margin at halftime. 114-106 for victory. With the win, the Cavaliers increased their score to 13-0, continuing their sixth-best season start in NBA history.

The Cavaliers are now one win away from tying their fourth-best start in league history. The Dallas Mavericks in 2002-03 and the Boston Celtics in 1957-58 both got off to 14-0 starts. The 1993-94 Houston Rockets and 1948-49 Washington Capitols both went 15-0, the second-best start in league history.

The Cavaliers have a long way to go to reach the all-time record. Led by Stephen Curry, the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors started with a score of 24-0 and achieved the most regular season wins in NBA history with a 73-9 series.

That historic season did not bring a championship. LeBron James’ Cavaliers defeated the Warriors in the NBA Finals that season for the franchise’s only championship. For now, these Cavaliers can continue to enjoy their history amid a scorching start that few saw coming.

Darius Garland led Cleveland with a 13-point run in the third quarter to pull the Cavs out of a first-half slump. He finished the match with 25 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

Mitchell overcame a poor shooting start to finish one assist short of a triple-double. He made three 3-pointers in the final three minutes of the game to extend Cleveland’s lead and stave off a late rally by the 76ers. He finished the match with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists.

Both have been an integral part of Cleveland’s undefeated run, along with Evan Mobley, who has been in the middle of his best four NBA seasons since joining the Cavaliers with the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NBA draft. Mobley finished the game with 14 points, seven rebounds, one steal and one block. The Cavs shot 49.4% from the field and 16 of 40 (40%) from 3-point range in the win.

The 76ers played with a makeshift starting lineup, with All-Stars Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey all sitting out in street clothes. Backup center Andre Drummond was a late scratch due to an illness.

Embiid and George both sat through what the team describes as “injury management.” on the second night of a back-to-back. Both came in a loss to the New York Knicks on Tuesday, with Embiid making his first appearance of the season. Maxey missed the game with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out for several weeks.

Guerschon Yabusele, Caleb Martin, Kyle Lowry, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Jared McCain started for Philadelphia with the team’s All-Stars on the sidelines. McCain caught up with the lack of points in recent games in Embiid’s absence and had the best game of his rookie season with 34 points and 10 assists. But that wasn’t enough to beat the red-hot Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers will try to extend their winning streak once again when they host the Chicago Bulls on Friday.
