Mother of two children, shot by the father of her children, recovered

A 25-year-old mother is doing the best she can after being shot twice by her ex-boyfriend. He is now unemployed and homeless.

Herrera said her 28-year-old ex-girlfriend was at home with her boyfriend and their two children. Luis Alonso Lopez GutierrezHe tried to get in.

“I told my boyfriend there was someone there and who it was because two weeks ago I had an incident where I had to call the police,” she said.

Angelique says she tried to break the front and back windows. She ran to her car with her boyfriend at the time.

Phoenix Police say Gutierrez shot at his car as he drove away.

“I didn’t know it was a gun until I saw his arm bleeding, but I was already driving and taking off. I didn’t know I was shot either. I just felt a lot of pressure on me.” “My stomach,” he said.

“It’s mind-blowing that he would do this to the mother of his children while his children were there. I couldn’t believe it,” Herrera’s friend Rubi Lopez said.

Court documents reveal Gutierrez fled DPS on I-10 towards Tucson. He was later arrested in Marana after DPS placed spike strips on his car.

This isn’t his first brush with the police.

Court records show Gutierrez was released from prison on Oct. 21 and that he is not a U.S. citizen, which prohibits him from legally owning a firearm.

“Ever since he got out, I felt like something bad was going to happen because even when I was in prison, he wouldn’t leave me alone,” Herrera said.

Angelique said Gutierrez called her from jail hours after his arrest.

When Angelique returned home from the hospital, she learned that she no longer had a place to live.

“To be honest, it’s really hard to pack up because the house I was living in was his sister’s house, so I had to move out immediately. He owned the house and wanted us to leave, so it was the first day I went out, so a lot of people come and help me pack and move my things ” he said.

She is now focused on healing and keeping her two children safe.

“I’m afraid he’ll come back and kill me,” he says. Angelique and her two children are living temporarily with a friend.

While Herrera is recovering, he is no longer able to work.
