Penn State coach Carolyn Kieger accused of driving players to suicide with explosive racism and bullying allegations

Penn State women’s basketball coach Carolyn Kieger has been accused of psychological harassment, bullying and making racially insensitive comments in a new report.

Two former players considered suicide under the coach, who held the same position at Marquette from 2014-19, while ten described the experience of playing under him as “one of the worst experiences of their lives.” Advanced Status.

Danielle King, who recorded the piece, was one of those actors and said Kieger ignored his suicidal thoughts at one point.

“He basically convinced me to meet with the student counselor or the counselor on campus or something,” King said. ‘And he said, ‘I think you should go to the gym more,’ and embarrassed me by saying my work ethic was the reason I was depressed.”

Another unnamed player who played under Kieger at Marquette said his “mental health deteriorated very quickly.”

‘… It was the first time in my life that I was using depression medication. “He knew some of these things about me, and I didn’t feel like he was worried,” the actor said, adding that they haven’t dealt with suicidal thoughts since leaving school.

Allazia Blockton, an award-winning actress at Marquette, said Kieger “is our greatest enemy, our greatest hatred, and he does everything he can to tear us down.”

A former Marquette player also accused Kieger of “character attacks” and “psychological damage.”

Kieger was also accused by Blockton of putting the team in a ‘freezing’ pool wearing hoodies when ‘half’ of the team couldn’t swim.

‘People can’t swim, so we hold on to our teammates. People are screaming. “People are drowning,” Blockton said.

Kieger was also accused of making racially insensitive comments, such as asking King (who is black) if he was with the father of his sister’s child.

Former PSU player Kayla Thomas also said that Kieger ‘always referred to his African American athletes as more dirty work players.’

Kieger was also accused of body shaming, with many cast members saying she was ‘fixated’ on weight.

During a media session on Tuesday, Kieger said he read Onward’s story and was “disappointed” to hear that “several” of his former players had negative experiences under his management.

‘I tell our players every day that every opportunity, whether good or disappointing, is an opportunity to learn, grow, move up and get better, and that’s what this opportunity offers me.’

‘…NO. “The No. 1 goal of our program is to provide a space for our young women to become the best versions of themselves,” she continued. ‘And I will certainly evaluate ways I can improve and make the student-athlete experience a positive one.’

Three players and two assistant coaches in particular spoke positively about Kieger.

“I’m not surprised (by the allegations) because kids these days are going to look for someone to blame when things don’t go their way,” former Marquette assistant Scott Merritt said.

In a statement to Onward, Penn State said it ‘takes any allegations of misconduct seriously and any reports are thoroughly investigated.’

‘Additionally, Intercollegiate Athletics conducts annual student-athlete surveys for its programs, as well as exit interviews with student-athletes and staff members who leave their respective athletic programs. ‘Based on direct feedback from student-athletes, Coach Kieger and the women’s basketball staff provide a positive and inclusive environment by focusing on their development on and off the basketball court.’
