Former Malaysian finance minister Daim Zainuddin passed away at the age of 86. He has been in intensive care for the past few weeks due to a stroke. Mr Daim helped guide Malaysia through economic recession and the Asian financial crisis during his two stints as finance minister from 1984 to 1991 and 1999 to 2001. He was charged earlier this year with failing to disclose his assets under an anti-corruption law, but entered a plea. not guilty. Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad said he was “indescribably saddened” to have lost a friend who fought alongside him. Afifah Ariffin reports.
