Editorial | Hong Kong office attracts companies worthy of its name

The government’s Strategic Business Attraction Office is slowly but surely helping to revitalize Hong Kong as a regional business hub. The latest batch of 17 companies have signed up to set up shop in the city.

In addition to bringing talent to Hong Kong, they will also offer high salaries and new opportunities for locals.

These cover the high-tech sectors the city needs to thrive in the 21st century: artificial intelligence and big data, life and health technology, fintech, robotics, advanced manufacturing and green energy technology. Fifteen are from the mainland, one is from the United States, and the other is from France.

Hong Kong is uniquely positioned to offer gateways to the region, beyond, and mainland China. The city will still give its closest rival, Singapore, a run for its money, thanks to its low tax regime and access to international capital markets.
