Parents in shock after 21-year-old daughter accused of murdering her toddler

The parents of 21-year-old Paige Bohne are in shock after their daughter was accused of openly murdering her toddler, Octavia.

On Thursday, St. Deputies with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Memory Lane Trailer Park around 12:47 a.m. for an unresponsive toddler.

Efforts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful and the child was declared dead.

“I’m used to being able to fix everything in my world and I feel helpless, but I can’t fix this,” said Charles Bohne, Paige’s father.

Evidence at the scene led investigators to take Paige, the mother of 2-year-old Octavia, into custody on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The charges were later upgraded to open murder because of the way the 2-year-old was killed, according to the prosecutor.

Paige’s mother, Susan Bohne, told News Channel 3 on Tuesday that she was in disbelief.

“He never laid a hand on any of his children,” Susan said.

Detective Sergeant Jason Auton of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said Paige was the person who called 911 on the night of the murder to report that something was wrong with Octavia.

“He looked worried,” Auton said. “His 2-year-old daughter was not awake.”

Deputies at the scene later realized foul play had occurred, according to Auton.

Paige was sent to St. Louis, where she remained without bail. He was taken into custody at the St. Joseph County Jail.

“This is very difficult for both of us, me and my daughter; we’ve always been very close,” Susan said.

This left a void in the hearts of Paige’s parents as they reflected on the memories they had with Paige on Tuesday.

“He was always a happy baby, woke up happy and went to bed happy,” Susan said. “I just want to know what happened to him, that’s all that matters right now.”

According to Auton, Octavia’s cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Investigators are still evaluating evidence collected at the scene.
