Man sentenced to more than six years in prison for shooting gun on Binghamton Street

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that a man was sentenced on weapons charges.

Lamont Weaver, 20, of Binghamton, will serve six and a half years in prison after being convicted of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the District Attorney’s Office said.

On April 27, Weaver was involved in a shooting incident outside 100 Susquehanna St. in Binghamton.

The Binghamton Police Department made multiple arrests in the incident. An investigation led to Weaver and another suspect shooting at each other. Weaver fired multiple shots.

“The community deserves to be protected from you,” Judge Carol A. Cocchiola said in sentencing Weaver.

District Attorney Paul Battisti called the attack disgusting.

“(Weaver’s) behavior demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety and well-being of our community,” Battisti said. “My hope is that Weaver will take the opportunity to reflect on his actions during his time in prison and make meaningful efforts toward rehabilitation.”

Weaver also received five years of probation as part of his sentence.

Battisti and Assistant District Attorney Lucas Finley prosecuted the case.
